Message from the Chair

As the chair of the Central Parents Committees for 2009-2010, I would like to welcome all new and returning members. It was truly a welcomed surprise this year at our Annual General Assembly of parent representatives, to see how many new sector reps and alternates we have this year. I hope you will find your new role as a parent rep, to be both interesting and challenging. Your involvement in these committees shows your commitment to public education and to the success of our board. There are many new things to learn in the name of education. As the year progresses, you will be invited to attend various presentations and workshops hosted by talented individuals in their chosen field. You will receive notices about these events through your sector chair, as well; they will be posted on this site. I hope you will use it as a means of increasing your knowledge and discovering how our board operates within the public education system.

	On February 12, 2009, the Central Parents’ Committee hosted our Annual Networking Event. Thank you to all who attended, and to those who helped organize the event. Mr. Tom Rhymes, Principal, Riverdale High School, led parents through a presentation on “Ensuring High School Success”. The presentation was well attended and appreciated by parents. Special thanks to Mr. Tom Rhymes and to the staff of Riverdale High School for supporting the parents of the Lester B. Pearson School Board.
